Browse Online Yard Sales from the Comfort of Your Home or Office
There’s a relatively new kid on the block in the online person-to-person selling business. Yardsellr.com was founded in October 2009 as a platform for buyers and sellers to experience the informality and serendipity of browsing or holding a yard sale without leaving the comfort of home or office. You can keep your car in the garage and even stay in your jammies while you hunt for bargains and treasures.
Yardsellr.com sellers offer a huge variety of items ranging from antique to vintage, to new and gently used, to hand crafted, to products that can be customized for you. You will find items at yardsellr.com that you would expect to find in your neighborhood’s seasonal yard sales, local thrift shops, and artisan and hand crafters’ studios.
To be sure, there are sellers on yardsellr.com who promote their existing businesses, so you will see some obvious drop-shipping and other commercial enterprises. However, there’s also a wealth of sellers wanting to connect from their home to yours.
Jump into Browsing Yardsellr
It’s so easy it’s almost silly. Just type whatever your interest is into the search box at the top of the page and click Search. Or, scroll down the page to select one of the “Blocks,” Yardsellr's term for categories. There’s some pretty funky stuff out there, so have fun browsing.
Before You Can Buy on Yardsellr
You can browse to your heart’s content on yardsellr.com, but in order to make a purchase, you need to have a Facebook account. This is a bit different from well-known selling sites like eBay, Etsy, or Amazon. On those sites, you set up an account, specify the details of contact information and payment method, and shop away.
In contrast, Yardsellr is a social media shopping site that uses online “neighborhoods” to make connections between buyers and sellers, and this means you need to be part of that social network. If you don’t already have a Facebook account, you will have to create one.
A Few Things You Should Know Before You Buy
Yardsellr is not an auction site Sellers set the price. Sellers also set the shipping and handling fee, which is prominently displayed in the item listing.
To learn more about a seller Click the seller’s Facebook page link.
To contact a seller There are three ways to contact a seller: you can leave a comment on the item listing, click the envelope icon on the item listing page, or send a message through the seller’s Facebook account.
Payment methods You can pay for your item with MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or PayPal.
You pay a fee to buy a Yardsellr item Sellers pay no fee to list and sell an item. You pay a small fee to buy an item, which you will see at checkout. And here’s the good news…
Congratulations! You've earned Photon$.
The buyer’s fee is easily offset by earning credits You can easily offset the buyer’s fee…and the price of your purchase…by earning credits called Photon$. Ten thousand Photon$ are worth ten US cents. Many opportunities exist across the site for earning these credits. For example, leaving a comment on an item listing will put a surprising number of Photon$ in your account, as will purchasing an item. I even earned 25,000 Photon$ one day just for logging in. Not to mention, when Yardsellr adds to your Photon$ bucket, it drops an animated sign on your page congratulating you for earning...kind of funky and funny.
When You Buy on Yardsellr
After you select an item and make payment, Yardsellr notifies the seller of your purchase. The seller then ships the item to the mailing address you provided during checkout. If you have questions about shipping time, shipping method, or the seller’s return policy, you should contact the seller before you commit to buy.
About “Liking” Blocks and Sellers
You as a buyer can opt to Like Blocks or sellers. When you do, you will be notified through your Facebook news feed when new items are listed in the Blocks or by the sellers you opt to Like.
You may want to exercise a bit of caution about Liking. When I first started browsing Yardsellr, I Liked the Jewelry Block and found my Facebook news feed bombarded hour-by-hour with new jewelry listings. You might be OK with that, but I wasn’t! I later learned to be more discriminating about what I invited to appear in my Facebook news feed.

What You Won’t Find on Yardsellr
You will not find the guides, product reviews, seller and buyer feedback, and forums that you may be familiar with on sites such as eBay and Amazon. You will also not find a detailed help section. But, in a way, you don’t need one, because the site’s navigation and operation are so simple. If you do run into a blip, then you can email Yardsellr through their contact page.
Keeping Up with Yardsellr News
The Yardsellr Blog Yardsellr staff publishes a blog which you access from the top of a Yardsellr page. It’s well worth your time as a buyer to frequent this lively venue for announcements, news, and tips.
The Yardsellr Leaderboard Also worthwhile is the Yardsellr Leaderboard, also accessed through a link at the top of a Yardsellr page. The Leaderboard displays member rankings and a comments section to which members can contribute.
Give Yardsellr a Whirl
I am giving Yardsellr a whirl, not only as a buyer but as a seller. Check out the Yardsellr site for unusual, collectible, fun and funky items as well as for surprisingly super deals.
I wonder if Yardsellr isn’t that new kid on the block that does manage to give eBay and other established online selling venues serious competition in the person-to-person marketplace. What do you think? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I just read abt the whole site...how long has it been around? sounds really good to me but I am such a precautious person I am a bit afraid
It would sure make it easier for me to get rid of things...I am trying to sell all this stuff I have collected over the years and now wonder why?
I have 2 mink coats here (were my mom's) all registered and everything but I sure don't fit them.
I have been giving so much to the Goodwill but could use some extra money actually...brakes just went out in the truck...ho hum...
Anyway I am sure going to look further into this..I am actually excited...THANKS SWEETIE...:O) Hugs G-Ma
Great hub and well written.
Sweet wishes Rhonda
I had not heard of Yardsellr, so this is great information! Makes sense to connect it to FB, so people can read a person's profile and see if they would trust doing business with them. Thank you for writing!
Sounds like a pretty cool site. I actually have quite a few things I want to sell, but don't have time to arrange a real yard sale at my place. Thanks for sharing, Sally. Voted up and useful. :)
Well, this is a site that I am going to have to look into. I have so much "stuff" to sell. Thanks for sharing this information. :)vocalcoach
Hi, Sally. I've never heard of this one and it sounds like a great way to shop as well as sell. And for the seller, it sure saves a lot of time and the effort of dragging all that stuff outside, then back in if it does not sell.
Just as I thought I was through with yard sales and flea markets ( one of my addictions as you know) you come along with one I can frequent online < sigh> There will be no tearing me away from my laptop now. This looks fabulous. Thanks for the heads up and as always, for a great read
Wow Sally, this sounds neat. I will definitely check it out.
rated up/useful and bookmarked
I m going to check it out
Thanks for some good tips.
Thank you for sharing.
Well I am certainly interested in this site, thanks for the info. I will check it out. I loved holding yard sales so maybe I continue to do so online. :)
Great Hub! My wife and I are both big time Yard Sale folks, but I think I will still prefer the outdoor venture over the online one. Have a great day!
Very cool. I'm not sure on the facebook angle at first but the more I thought about it the more it makes sense. It keeps everyone legal. This hub was very informative. Thank you.
Sally, really appreciate this info, and I'm w/G-mom--every nickel counts these days, seems like, to everyone. I've been hesitant about Facebook since it started; unfortunately, for me its connotation is not credibility, but I had to sign up anyway for something here on HP. But hubs like this are one reason I keep reading. Up/useful/bookmarked
Very interesting site. I hope it takes off for you. Thanks for explaining it so well here on your HUB. :D
Me, too. I've signed on but ignored FB. Your answer gives me new insight, as did the hub--which was great! thnx again--wonder if any of us will wind up buying/selling each other and not know it? Curiouser and curiouser ideas in my head!
Very interesting hub. Thanks for the great info.
Very cool! I like that there is no fee to sell. I'm done with eBay and amazon. I'll be checking out their page for sure! Thanks, voted up & useful :)
Ok, I'll check it out. Thanks.
This was so interesting. I will check it out. I do love going to yard sales in person though.
Sally's Trove: OHHH I think you have something there. Perhaps sell Sally Trove's Waters... or Cookies...
Sally: Do the water and cookie thing too. What a take off and money in your pocket. Add a weekly blog to your mix and you will be golden... Just a thought from one business person to another...
a very informative hub- i have seen something on the uk facebook called market place- i wonder if that is similar
Sally: Your Welcome... You will do well..
Firstly, let me say I'm sorry for not being here sooner.
Yardsellr certainly does sound interesting. It's too bad I've given up my addiction or I'd be right there with you, but buying LOL. However, as I've mentioned to you, the biggest reason I wouldn't go there is because of having to sign up with Facebook, which I want no part of.
It sounds like you're doing well with it and I even venture to say it seems to be a good positive experience.
I hope you earn photon$ by promoting their site :)
I would be very careful of this place! No protection if something goes wrong. They have banned many people for complaining on their wall about how they are treated. Make sure you read all Reviews on their main Facebook page before you decide to chose them.
Took over 2 months to get money back for an item I purchased. After repeated emails to the help@yardsellr I got the same thing your refund is coming. Then they started to get rude with it. And the 20% buying fee (yardsellr slice) use to be 10%. Please be careful, this is a site of young adults (by the pictures) running it and seen now after doing research are banning people for any negative comments or feedback.
Thanks for these good, concise details put together so well. This will be interesting to check into.
Voted up and awesome ! Great hub!! I just spent two days of last weekend in the hot summer sun , 102 degrees ! 105 heat index ! and i sat under a tree and still got my face and forehead and legs and arms sunburned! and it was exhausting! i remember why i had only had 1 yard sale in my whole life ! and iknow now that it will never happen again unless its in january!! :) thanks for the tip , i will go and check it out! thanks so much for the info!! :)
Interesting site. Was a bit turned off by the fact that you have to sign in using facebook.Nonetheless i think I will give it a try at some point. Thanks for the information
SOUNDS AND LOOKS GOOD. BUT BEFORE I PROCEED I WILL DEFINITELY DO MORE HOMEWORK TO FIND OUT THE DETAILS OF THIS SITE. THE CONNECTON TO FB IS A PLUS, IN MY OPINION. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ON THE PROS AND CONS.
Never heard of it, but it sounds intriguing.I love yard sales of any kind! Great hub. Voted up and awesome. Thanks for the information.
This is my favorite site to sell online. I've been selling on Yardsellr since April 2011. No seller fees, friendly and helpful staff, great items, overall just an excellent experience. Anyone new to the site gets a $5.00 sign up bonus. Check them out...you won't be sorry.
Yardsellr is complete crap.I bought something from there and earned 20 bucks in photons.I come back the next day I only have 10 bucks left! They scammed me out of money I couldv used to buy some more things!
Very well done article on YardSellR.com. I am there as a Seller and a Buyer. Excellent site, superb customer service, and despite the lack of rules akin to eBay - they run a very tight ship and there is no nonsense.
Recommend you stop on in to visit.

I'm also a Seller and Buyer on Yardsellr and I agree with Kathleen my friend on Yardsellr + it's Fun and profitable and you can get most anything. I've been collecting for years and now I have finaly found the place to sell my stuff. Facebook is the way to communicate with friends and Sell at the same time and it powers your Yardsale, It's the only way to Sell on line. Thanks Richard Peace
I love Yardsellr I have been buying and selling about 6 months there. I have sold things that have been sitting in my etsy shop for months some for years LOl. My items are not cheap either, as I deal in vintage and antique jewelry so don't let the name scare you if your a seller. You can get some decent things on that site and decent $ for selling
wow this site is WAaaaay over priced on items! most I can order online cheaper and I thought yardsellr would be a site of gently used items for sale from person to person? I will stick to Lista seems like the real yardsellr site than this site have fun blowing your money!
Thanks for your article, as I am trying to get all the info on yardsellr before I set up shop. I did not find the site very informative or into detail explaining all topics for my questions. Now I know it is a Facebook "thing" and I am leery due to letting them have access (basically to my friend list). Communicating with me is one thing but my friends may not want to be known to yardsellr...and repeated hacking of the sight. I did not read anywhere if listings are picked up automatically by any of the search engines..google, bling.or is facebook it?..or do you have to pay in the "block + boost" since they do not explain exactly what that is at $1.00 an item for that feature? Any other clarifications for what you get for basic free listings vs. what you are chared a fee for.
I love this website great deals and a great community of friends. I have also began to sell on here and its has turned out to be a hit. Hats off to the yardsellr crew!
Was unfamiliar with this site but since I like yard sales, I'll check it out. Voting this Up and Useful.
Great reviews and helpful comments! I just saw the Etsy Import Tool on Yardsellr and am considering trying that. Has anyone tried that yet? So far I haven't bought or listed anything because I'm still doing my homework, but it sounds like another great place!
I recently joined yardsale as a buyer. I really wanted these Duran Duran pins...lol! I chicked out! I am 40 years old...lol! Great hub material here! You put it together very well! Voted up and shared!
I'm in! I've seen FB ads, but never went to the site. I'll check it out now. Thanks for the heads up!
